                                                    ENTRY 1

Item 1: Story

The Cat, the Rooster, and the Young Mouse

A very young mouse made his first trip out of the hole and into the world. He returned to
tell his mother of the wonderful creatures he saw.
"Oh, Mother," said the mouse, "I saw some curious animals. There was one beautiful animal
with fluffy fur and a long winding tail. She made such a tender vibrating noise. I saw another
animal, a terrible looking monster. He had raw meat on his head and on his chin that wiggled
and shook as he walked. He spread out his sides and cried with such a powerful and frightening
wail,  that I scurried away in fear, without even talking to the kind beautiful animal”.
Mother Mouse smiled, "My dear, that horrible creature was a harmless bird, but that beautiful
animal with the fluffy fur was a mouse-eating cat. You are lucky she did not have you for dinner."

Ø  Metaphor:

·               the young mouse: a person who judge others by their looks
·               the cat: a person who is good looking but two-faced and wicked
·               the rooster: a person who is not eye-catching or ugly but kind-hearted
Ø  Understatement:
·        “You are lucky she did not have you for dinner" instead of saying “ you are lucky she did
 not eat you”
Ø  Message:   Never judge anyone by their looks!

                                                Item 2: Poem

        A Prayer in Spring
  Oh, give us pleasure in the flowers to-day;
And give us not to think so far away
As the uncertain harvest; keep us here
All simply in the springing of the year.

Oh, give us pleasure in the orchard white,
  Like nothing else by day, like ghosts by night;
And make us happy in the happy bees,
The swarm dilating round the perfect trees.

And make us happy in the darting bird
That suddenly above the bees is heard,
The meteor that thrusts in with needle bill,
And off a blossom in midair stands still.

For this is love and nothing else is love,
The which it is reserved for God above
To sanctify to what far ends He will,
But which it only needs that we fulfil.

                                  Robert Frost
Ø         Rhyme: today-away, hear-year, white-night, bees-trees, bird-heard, bill- still, will-fulfil,…
Ø         Simile: As the uncertain harvest,  like nothing else by day, like ghosts by night
Ø         Metaphor: -  The spring - the happiness in life.
-          uncertain harvest - the goals that are not achieved in  life
Ø  Message: Because time in our life is short , we should try to achieve  goals but don’t
forget to enjoy the pleasures in the life.
Item 3: Picture

Metaphor:  - 3 types of machine: the destruction of  soil environment
-          A man, a woman with rope, chair in her hands, 2 snakes raising their heads,
some leaves:  human beings, flora and fauna are fighting against soil destruction.
Ø  Message: We all should protect our soil environment  from destruction.
