ENTRY 1-Nguyễn Hồng Ngọc
Item 1: Poem
Lượm_Tố Hữu
Ngày Huế đổ máu,
Chú Hà Nội về,
Tình cờ chú cháu,
Gặp nhau Hàng Bè.
Chú bé loắt choắt,
Cái xắc xinh xinh,
Cái chân thoăn thoắt,
Cái đầu nghênh nghênh,
Ca-lô đội lệch,
Mồm huýt sáo vang,
Như con chim chích,
Nhảy trên đường vàng...
Rhetorical devices:
+ Metaphor: Hue bloody days (1946
days when Hue
was fighting against French colonialism)
+ Alliteration: chú cháu, thoăn thoắt, chim chích
+ Simile: the child is like a warbler
+ Rhyme: loắt choắt
+ Symbol: “golden path” is the brightest image, representing
the beautiful sunny road going to the bright future of Vietnam
revolution
Message:
The indomitable spirit of patriotism of vietnamese people
influencing little children like Luom in the poem.
Item 2: Song
Fuck you_Lily Allen
Look inside
Look inside your tiny mind
Now look a bit harder
Cause we're so uninspired,
so sick and tired of all the
hatred you harbor
So you say
It's not okay to be gay
Well I think you're just evil
You're just some racist who
can't tie my laces
Your point of view is medieval
Look inside your tiny mind
Now look a bit harder
Cause we're so uninspired,
so sick and tired of all the
hatred you harbor
So you say
It's not okay to be gay
Well I think you're just evil
You're just some racist who
can't tie my laces
Your point of view is medieval
Chorus:
Fuck you (Fuck you)
Fuck you very, very much
Cause we hate what you do
And we hate your whole crew
So please don't stay in touch
Fuck you (Fuck You)
Fuck you very, very much
Cause your words don't translate
And it's getting quite late
So please don't stay in touch
Do you get
Do you get a little kick out of
being slow minded?
You want to be like your father
It's approval your after
Well that's not how you find it
Fuck you very, very much
Cause we hate what you do
And we hate your whole crew
So please don't stay in touch
Fuck you (Fuck You)
Fuck you very, very much
Cause your words don't translate
And it's getting quite late
So please don't stay in touch
Do you get
Do you get a little kick out of
being slow minded?
You want to be like your father
It's approval your after
Well that's not how you find it
Do you
Do you really enjoy living a
life that's so hateful?
Cause there's a hole where
your soul should be
Your losing control of it and
it's really distasteful
Do you really enjoy living a
life that's so hateful?
Cause there's a hole where
your soul should be
Your losing control of it and
it's really distasteful
(Chorus)
You say
you think we need to go to war
Well you're already in one
Cuz it's people like you
that need to get slew
No one wants your opinion
you think we need to go to war
Well you're already in one
Cuz it's people like you
that need to get slew
No one wants your opinion
(chorus)
Rhetorical devices:
Bathos: look insight your tiny mind, your point of view is
medieval
Repitation: look insight, you’re just, fuck you, we hate,,,
Rhyme: say-okay-gay ( so you say it’s not okay to be gay)
Rhetorical question: Do you get a little kick out of being
slow minded?
Do you really
enjoy living a life that’s so hateful?
Message:
With angry lyrics and cheerful tone, the song mentions an
American politician. It shows the opposite viewpoints with his ones including
discrimination, sex, etc and gives him bitter, critical words as a way of
satire.
Item
3: Short story
A cold day dawned and a pale sun shone the fountain and the
icy road. Close by lay the lifeless body of a little girl surrounded by spent
matches.
(The Little Match Girl by Hans Christian
Anderson)
Rhetorical devices:
Understatement: the lifeless body (the dead)
Message:
The little matchseller passed away in peace where she must
not suffer from pain, starving and cold.
References:
About the first item, i think the " golden path" in the poem is not the representation of the beautiful sunny road going to the bright future of Vietnam revolution. To my mind, the author uses metaphor with the aim of describing the color covering in the atmosphere, or more specifically, the field, in order to talk about the beaty of the countryside of Vietnam in the harvest
