Đây thôn Vĩ Dạ

Sao anh không về chơi thôn Vĩ?

Nhìn nắng hàng cau nắng mới lên

Vườn ai mướt quá xanh như ngọc

Lá trúc che ngang mặt chữ điền

Gió theo lối gió, mây đường mây

Dòng nước buồn thiu hoa bắp lay

Thuyền ai đậu bến sông trăng đó

Có chở trăng về kịp tối nay?

Mơ khách đường xa khách đường xa

Áo em trắng quá nhìn không ra

Ở đây sương khói mờ nhân ảnh

Ai biết tình ai có đậm đà?

Analysis:

·         Canto 1

-          Rhetorical question : “Sao anh không về chơi thôn Vĩ?”

-          Repetition:  “nắng”

-          Simile : “xanh  như ngọc”

-          Metaphor: “lá trúc che ngang mặt chữ điền”

·         Canto  2

-          Antithesis : “gió theo lối gió, mây đường mây”

-          Rhetorical question: “Thuyền ai đậu bến sông trăng đó

                                     Có chở trăng về kịp tối nay?”

·         Canto  3:

-          Repetition : “khách đường xa, khách đường xa”, “ai”

-          Metaphor : “khách đường xa”, “sương khói mờ nhân ảnh”

-          Rhetorical question: “ai biết tình ai có đậm đà?”

ð  Message: the poem is about love of the author to Hue in general and Hue’s people in particular. Moreover, the poem is about an affinity between the author and a girl. The author expresses his agony, misery, sorrow and pain during serious illness through his verses.

-          Irony: Not only people but also a dog wear mask when walking in the street

=> Message: Air pollution has impact on every creature with no exception.

Fable

“A wolf found great difficulty in getting at the sheep owing to the vigilance of the shepherd and his dogs. But one day it found the skin of a sheep that had been flayed and thrown aside, so it put on over its own pelt and strolled down among sheep. The Lamb that belonged to the sheep, whose skin the wolf was wearing, began to follow the wolf in the sheep’s clothing; so, leading the lamb a little apart, he soon made a meal off her, and for some time he succeed in deceiving the sheep, and enjoying hearty meals”.

Metaphor:  A wolf represents a person who is cunning. Meanwhile, a sheep symbolizes naive person who is easy to be taken advantage of.

ð  Message: Appearances do not represent the nature inside. Therefore, it is unlikely to evaluate somebody through their appearance.
